Hughes County, located in the south central part of Oklahoma, is home to close to 14,000 residents and occupies 815 square miles. Agriculture and cattle raising are an essential portion of the economy as are corporate employers such as Corrections Corporation of America and Tyson Foods. Many residents and tourist enjoy the Seminole Nation Museum in Wewoka as well as Stroup Park and the city lake in Holdenville. Wetumka hosts and annual Sucker Day parade in August and Wewoka has a Sorghum Day Festival in October each year. Several other community events are held at the Hughes County Expo Center in Holdenville, which serves as the county seat.
