Tushka, a rural community in Atoka County certainly lives up to the Choctaw translation of Tushka – meaning warrior. First incorporated in 1915, it was then completely destroyed by fire during the Great Depression. Shortly after, most of the 250 residents fled to California in search of jobs and never returned. In 1968, the town incorporated again and began rebuilding its population only to suffer another tragedy on April 14, 2011 when a tornado damaged most of the town and took the life of two of it’s citizens.
Today the city of Tushka has rebuilt once again and is proud to the be the home of the Tushka Tigers. The small school offers excellent education for grades kindergarten through 12th with active sports and academic teams.
